Description

In this talk we will cover two Fintech use cases that very much can scale only with the power of modern Smart NICs. We will also talk about new Linux enhancements that can bring this to many more such interesting usage in our exponentially growing Networking space.

We will be talking about the following Technologies

  1. PTM (Precision Time Management)
  2. HW flow pacing and Time based scheduling using a Timing wheel
  3. HW port 2 port forwarding
  4. P4 programmable pipelines and time to launch as an action
  5. Low Jitter Class of service in HW
  6. AF_XDP enhancements to take advantage of flow pacing HW capabilities

Fintech workloads and few other modern work loads require very fine grained control (down to couple of milliseconds) over packet pacing and at the same time be able to do this for millions of flows; all requiring different granularity of flow pacing. For this, a lot of different modern Network HW features are needed to work together. This talk will go in to the details of how this gets implemented. Also we will talk about low jitter requirements in such use cases and why that is so important to support in modern SmartNICs.
